Goldilocks

This year, I’ve felt a little like Goldilocks.

In my version of the fairy tale, I left the safe confines of my fourteen-year job and tried not working at all: too cold!

Then I tried working at the biggest of the corporate tech giants: too hot!

You know what I’m looking for: just right.

Aren’t we all? Aren’t we all looking for the right combo of purpose, interest, time, location–and yeah, money–that will give our life meaning?

In truth, I’m no longer expecting to find just right in “a job.” I’m not looking to work full-time for someone in a defined role, nor in being immersed in the constant buzz of email, Slack, etc.

What I do want is to help people reach their goals: guiding their customers as they use a product; protecting their data; selling art or automotive services; writing a book or article; or advancing their careers. And given my skills and experience, I am interested in working with stories—blog posts, training, white papers, yes, but curriculum maps and career plans too—that help reach those goals.

Part of my own Goldilocks journey has been recognizing I don’t want to be a solo writer, working in isolation, nor do I want to chase corporate goals I don’t care about. I’m looking for some meaningful engagement with people who want to create and share stories about what they’re doing and why it matters. We can figure out the details.

If you’ve got aspirations or ideas and you’d like some help, or if you know someone who does, look me up. I can promise you an honest opinion, grounded in years of experience and leavened with empathy and understanding.
